Ingredients
Serves 2
- 1 Tin tuna steak (roughly 160g tin), drained
- 4 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning
- 2 spring onions, finely sliced
- 1 tbsp chopped gherkins
- 4 slices white sandwich bread
- 4 slices mature cheddar
- 50 g unsalted butter, melted
Procedure
- In a bowl, mix the tuna, mayo, mustard, Montreal Seasoning, spring onion, and gherkins.
- Heat a seasoned cast iron pan or non-stick pan over medium heat. Brush both sides of each slice of bread with the melted butter and toast the first side for 3-4 mins until golden. Flip bread and lay one slice of cheese on top of each bread slice. Pile the tuna mix on top of two of the bread slices, spreading it in an even layer. Close sandwiches, placing top bread slices cheese side down, and continue to cook until bottom of sandwich is well toasted; press down gently on sandwich to ensure even toasting.
- Flip tuna melt and cook until second side is well toasted. If your cheese at this point isn't melted enough, transfer sandwiches to a baking sheet and heat in oven until cheese is well melted, about 3 minutes. Serve up!
CHEF’s TIP
!
Drain the tuna thoroughly and mix the filling ahead of service. This improves texture and allows the seasoning to fully infuse, saving time during busy shifts.
